Recognize returning customers
Customer memory
Customer memory lets your assistant pick up where it left off with a returning, identified user. It distils durable facts and notable moments from their past conversations into a compact profile, then recalls it in the assistant's context at the start of their next chat—so they don't have to repeat themselves. It applies only to verified end-users.
What you get
- Durable facts and notable moments distilled from a user's past chats
- Recalled in the assistant's instructions at the start of their next conversation
- Only for verified, identified end-users—anonymous visitors are never profiled
- Cache-safe: injected so it never degrades response caching
- Per-application toggle; available on Growth and higher
How it works
Identify your users and turn it on
Customer memory builds on end-user identity and conversation storage. Enable it in the application's Customer settings with a Growth plan or higher, and pass a verified user identity for the chats you want remembered.
Signals are distilled and folded
When an identified user's conversation settles, durable facts and moments are extracted—skipping anything transient or sensitive—and folded deterministically into one compact per-user profile.
The assistant greets them in context
On the user's next conversation, the profile is added to the assistant's instructions as a short returning-customer section, so it already knows the context.
